Headed Out of Town This Summer? Don’t Forget Your Free Vacation Watch

Summer vacation season is here, and whether you’re heading to the beach, taking a road trip, or visiting family, the Board of Directors for Harris County Municipal Utility District No. 504 (HCMUD 504) wants residents to remember that free Vacation Watch services are available through the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office.

While you’re away, Precinct 4 deputies can patrol your neighborhood and help keep an eye on your home, providing added peace of mind during your travels. This free service is available to residents and can help deter suspicious activity while your home is unoccupied.

When submitting a Vacation Watch request, residents may be asked to provide details such as:

• Whether lights will be left on inside the home
• If pets will remain at the residence
• Whether an alarm system is installed and armed
• If anyone is authorized to access the home
• Whether vehicles will remain in the driveway
• Emergency contact information in case deputies are unable to reach you

Residents are encouraged to submit requests at least three days before departure whenever possible.

A few simple precautions can help your home appear occupied and reduce security risks while you’re away:

• Use timers for interior lights instead of leaving lights on continuously
• Ask a trusted neighbor or friend to collect packages and check on your property
• Place a temporary hold on your mail through USPS
• Avoid posting travel plans or live vacation updates publicly on social media
• Make arrangements for pets and provide emergency contact information to caregivers
• Ensure all doors, windows, and garage doors are locked before departure
• Notify your alarm company that you’ll be traveling
