As summer comes to a close, it's time to prepare for a new school year. With students returning to classrooms, traffic around the community will increase, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times. Whether you're driving, walking, biking, or dropping off a student, a few simple precautions can help keep everyone safe.

Groves Elementary School welcomes students back on Wednesday, August 12, with doors opening at 7:30 a.m. Please allow extra travel time during the first few weeks of school as everyone adjusts to the new routine.

Tips for Drivers

Drivers play an important role in keeping students safe during the school commute.

Slow down and stay alert in school zones and residential neighborhoods.
Watch carefully for children walking or riding bicycles, especially near intersections and crosswalks.
Eliminate distractions such as texting or using your phone while driving.
Be prepared to stop for crossing guards and pedestrians.
Allow extra following distance, as traffic may be heavier than usual during arrival and dismissal times.

Tips for Students Walking or Riding Bikes

Students can also help make their trip to and from school safer by following these safety habits.

Always use sidewalks whenever they are available.
Cross streets only at designated crosswalks and obey crossing guards.
Look left, right, and left again before crossing any street.
Stay alert and avoid distractions such as phones or headphones while crossing.
Ride bicycles in the same direction as traffic and wear a properly fitted helmet every time you ride.
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of vehicles whenever possible.

School Drop-Off Reminders

To help ensure a safe and efficient arrival for all students, please follow these important procedures at Groves Elementary:

If you are using the unassisted drop-off line, remain in your vehicle at all times. This helps keep traffic moving safely and efficiently for everyone.
If your child needs assistance exiting the vehicle, please use the assisted drop-off line so staff can help safely.
Do not drop off car riders in the bus and daycare loop on Madera Run. This area is reserved for buses and daycare transportation and should remain clear for student safety.
